• Open to all Junior Families

Harriet Katz, Freestyle's volunteer College Career Counselor, will describe the process, give suggestions for putting together a portfolio targeted for specific colleges.

Topics to be discussed will include:

• Definitions and examples of observational art, composition, experimental, mixed media and design
• Drawing value, color perception and spatial perception
• Photography
• The importance of originality and the ability to showcase your imagination in your work
• Does your work solve a visual problem? Tell a story?
• Examples of self-portraits
• Why creating a series or a study may be helpful to show your inspiration
• What to avoid
• The importance of the sketchbook
• How to organize your portfolio
• What is a home test?
• How to craft an artist's statement for a college application
• What is an Arts Supplement for students not pursuing visual arts in college
